Baby Koa | Maine Newborn Photographer

Koa was as sweet as they come. He hardly made a peep during his entire three hours here in my studio, and slept like a champ as I posed him. He had the most perfect, pouty lips and looked amazing on every color backdrop I used with him. It was the epitome of a dream session! These are just a “few” of my favorites:

2019 has brought me some pretty fabulous babies so far and I can’t wait to meet the rest that this year will bring, including our own! I’m currently due in just 3 weeks so be prepared to be swamped with a ton of photos of our own little squishy babe soon! ;-) Until next time.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are such a beautiful change of pace for me here at JRP! Newborns and babies make up the majority of my business, but it's not very often I get the request of an in-home lifestyle session as opposed to a studio session, but I'm truly hoping to book more of them this year. The K family's home was so bright and airy and made for such a warm, cozy spot for their photos today. This sweet girl is a real-life doll!!

I’m so looking forward to photographing more of these intimate sessions. Huge thank you to the K family for warmly inviting me into their home<3

Baby Lily | Maine Newborn Photographer

It’s been a loooong winter, at least it feels like that for me here! The cold has been relentless, the snowstorms just keep coming, and due to being almost 9 months pregnant, I’ve been even more tired and drained this season than in the past. My soul is longing for some sunshine and warmer weather, and I know I’m not the only one feeling that way lately.

Luckily Miss Lily was a breath of fresh air for her studio newborn session. I first met her mom and dad this past December to photographer their maternity session (absolute killer session thanks to mom’s awesome red dress and hair and makeup!) and it’s always so nice to have clients back in front of my camera for a second or third time. It feels like reuniting with old friends, and these guys were so much fun to photograph for their maternity session that it was nothing but good vibes in the studio the morning I got to meet Lily!

She fought sleep at first, but once she gave in to the warmth and white noise in the studio, she was out like a light. Her session was so refreshing after having a stretch of some pretty stubborn babies, and she let me try some new props and techniques while I worked with her.

I always get a bit sad when I send off a final gallery to a family because I don’t always know when I’ll be lucky enough to see them back and it’s such a privilege to be apart of such an intimate and amazing, life-altering journey these parents-to-be are on. It’s nearly impossible to not grow even slightly attached to these families, especially when their kid is this cute.

I’m hoping I get to work with these three again in the future and wish them nothing but the best of course! But to be honest, I think they’re already killin’ it at this parenting thing.

Check out how sweet Lily is!

Until next time!

Baby Bay | Maine Newborn Photographer

Sweet little Bay finally made her way into my studio a few weeks ago. I had previously photographed her Fresh 48 session in the hospital about a month ago and it always amazes me just how much newborns change within those first few weeks of life. Even between meeting her in her hospital room to the time she came for her studio session, she looked so much different!

I had such a great time with these images; I’ve been investing a lot of time and money lately into learning new techniques to add to my newborn photography and it’s been a lot of fun to put these newly learned skills to use.

I can’t wait to see Bay back with her parents in just a couple of months for a spring apple blossom sessions!

Baby E was my first official newborn session of 2019, and she did not disappoint in the least! She truly put me on the right track for this year’s newborn sessions and I’m so grateful for how good she was for me. I got to experiment with a lot of new techniques and props, and I always leave a session feeling inspired when I can switch things up and get a little extra creative when photographing a session. I sincerely hope to see her sweet cheeks back in my studio soon! <3 <3

Just look her sweet little rolls and head full of hair!

From the time I had worked with Kim and Bryan for their maternity session this past summer, I knew that they were going to be the best of parents. And upon arrival to my studio for their newborn portrait session it was very evident of just how loved baby Mason truly was.  I am so blessed to have this family as clients of mine. I can only hope to see them back again soon <3

Tara + Jacksen | Maine Maternity & Newborn Photographer

Tara and I met up for her maternity session at a new spot I wanted to check out, not too far from where I live. Her mom and friend tagged along and we headed into the wooded area of this location to find an old stone bridge covered in moss and pine needles, and ever since then it's been one of my favorite spots!

That evening was absolutely perfect; It was warm out with just a slight breeze and the sun was lighting up this location just perfectly. We walked a little further off the path to find an even better piece to this location; a large stone archway smack dab in the middle of the woods. This thing was giant; and with the warm, glowing rays that shot through the tree tops, it was straight out of a fairy tale. Her golden dress certainly didn't disappoint either.

Tara rocked her maternity session and was so amazing with trying new things with me, we even got to play around with some smoke bombs!

Check out some of Tara's maternity images below:

It wasn't too long after our maternity session that Jacksen decided he wanted to join us Earthside. I played around with some fall-inspired props and with his gorgeous skin tones, he pulled it off so well. You can see some of his images below:

I say this often but, Jacksen was also such a good sport for his newborn session. Hardly a peep came from him while we were shooting and we finished in almost record time<3

Until next time!

Have you ever done that thing where you meet someone new, introduce yourself like you've never met them before, but actually you met them a while ago at a birthday dinner for your brother in law?

No? Just me?

Well for me that was Heidi and Matt! I can only hope I made a great second-first-impression.

The three of us met in Owl's Head for their session back in August. The weather was perfect and the beaches were pretty empty for the most part, except for a couple of long-lost-lovers making out in the bushes across the way from us which, in my opinion, really set the mood for our romantic beach maternity session. Now thatI think about it, I probably should have left my card with them.

Heidi was a trooper the entire evening; we had to scale down a steep ditch to access the more private area of the beach (which, when we arrived, we discovered it was not so private anymore), she walked barefoot on the rocky sands, got her feet wet in the cold waters, and climbed up into the rocky ledges for some shots. Matt did okay too.

But in all seriousness, Matt and Heidi did awesome! I loved their images and they were fantastic to work with, and they made my job easy that evening. Here are a handful of images from their maternity session:

About 6 weeks later little Maya decided to make her appearance. She was honestly one of the easiest babies I have photographed in a while, and she hardly made a peep until she needed a little snack mid-session. My newborn sessions are typically very neutral and I love working with natural/earth tones and limit the prop usage, but every once in a while I like toinclude some girly stuff like lots of pinks, floral, headbands; the works! Maya let me do that with her and I loved how sweet she looked all dressed up. Thanks for being so good to me, baby girl!

I can only hope that I'll be seeing these three back again very soon, they were so good to me! :)

Every once in a while I get a newborn that is a photographer's absolute dream. Isabella was one of those babies! She was like putty in my hands and she curled right up into all of her poses without a single peep for the whole 2 hours. I can certainly say the quickest newborn session I've had in years!

On top of being a total rockstar, this girl is cute. Like, CUTE. Just take a look for yourself below.

I hope you love Isabella's images as much as I do! Until next time.

Rachel, Dean + Ella | Maine Maternity + Newborn Photographer

I first met Rachel and Dean at their maternity session in mid-April. It started off as a warm day for that time of year with some sunshine spotting here and there, but as our session time soon approached that was not the case! Other than the slightly overcast skies pictured, you wouldn't have guessed the temps felt like it was forty-something degrees. Rachel rocked her maternity dresses in the cold winds, and Dean reluctantly followed suit. We shot at a small wildlife refuge in Albion that was still pretty bare and bleak looking upon arrival which is pretty normal for early Springtime in Maine, but the tones and treeline in the distance made for a beautifully simple backdrop for their maternity photos. Here are some of my personal favorites:

Several weeks later I received a message from Rachel letting me know that Miss Ella had arrived, so we set a day for them to come in and do her newborn photos. Sweet little Ella slept so wonderfully for me, she hardly made a peep for the entire 2.5 hour session. The weather was quite opposite from their maternity photos and was warm enough that I was able to snap a couple sweet shots of this little sweet pea out in the garden. Overall, Ella's newborn session is one of my favorites to this day. The film-inspired look, her strawberry blonde hair, and the earth tones I was able to incorporate gave it a very simple, yet beautiful outcome. Very much like their maternity photos. Here are some of my favorite from Ella's newborn session:

Rachel, Dean + Ella were such a great, down-to-earth family to work with, and I sincerely hope to have them back in front of my camera in the very near future.

Until next time!
